Finding work starts with a question: why Taaly is on WhatsApp

The Taaly Jobs assistant on WhatsApp helps newcomers with the first two steps towards work in the Netherlands: understanding what a job asks of you, and building a work profile. It does this in your own language, on a number you can use today: +31 6 53988594.

The barrier comes before the vacancy

Looking for work in the Netherlands usually starts on a vacancy website. For many newcomers the problem starts earlier. They do not know which diplomas an employer asks for, whether their experience abroad counts, or whether their residence permit allows them to work. They would rather ask those questions in their own language than in a form.

The answer to that last question is often better than people expect. Employers do not need a permit to hire a statushouder, according to the Dutch government. A statushouder is someone with an asylum residence permit. Information like this does not reach people when nobody explains it.

Why WhatsApp, not another app

Installing an app, creating an account, logging in: every step costs effort for someone who has just started learning Dutch. WhatsApp is already on almost every phone, so that is where the Taaly Jobs assistant lives. You send "Hallo" and it replies within seconds.

The assistant first asks which language you want to use, for example Dutch, English, Arabic, Ukrainian, Turkish, Tigrinya, Farsi, Dari, Somali, French or Spanish. You answer in short messages, at your own pace, and you can stop and continue later. If you have talked to the assistant before, it simply replies in the language of your message.

Two jobs: explain, and build a profile

The assistant does two things, matching the first two phases of what we call the job journey: orientation, and screening and conditions.

  • Explaining what a job needs. Ask, for example, "what do I need to work as a taxi driver?" The assistant lists the rules, the diplomas and the first steps, with links to the official organizations. Rules can change; the official organization decides.
  • Building a work profile. Send your CV as a PDF, Word file or photo, or answer the questions: your experience, education, Dutch level, where you live, how far you can travel, which hours you can work and what work you want. It takes about five minutes.

A person takes over

The assistant does not place anyone in a job; people do. When your profile is complete, the assistant shows it to you first. You correct anything that is wrong and confirm. Then a member of the Taaly team reads it and contacts you on WhatsApp or by phone about vacancies that fit. Nothing goes to an employer without your consent.

We cannot promise a job. We do promise a real person who looks at your situation and helps you with the next step.

Where the assistant fits in Taaly

Taaly is the digital integration assistant for newcomers. Integration starts with language; it succeeds with work. In the Taaly app you practice Dutch and find activities in your municipality, and with Taaly Jobs you can browse vacancies from employers open to newcomers yourself, the closest first.

The Jobs assistant on WhatsApp is the way in for people who do not have the app yet, or who want to ask questions first. It asks permission before saving anything. It is not a WhatsApp or Meta AI: it runs on Taaly's own infrastructure in the EU, in line with the GDPR. WhatsApp is only the channel.
